Golf
The
Costa del Sol is arguably the best place for a golfing holiday in Europe. The
weather is good all year round and there are over 40 beautiful courses most
with championship status. The nickname for the location of the apartment is
Golf Valley. 5 superb golf courses are within a 5 minute drive of our front
door. On the map below we detail most of the courses in the area. Courses 1 to
5 are the ones closest to the apartment; all within 5 minutes drive (Los
Naranjos is our favourite). Courses 6 to 19 are all within 10 to 25 minutes and
courses 20 to 40 are all 30 mins to 1hr. For the adventurous Monte Mayor with
its mountainous terrain and wonderful views is a must take plenty of spare
balls! If you book our apartment we would be delighted to put you in touch with
our contacts who can book golf at good rates.

1. La Quinta
La
Quinta’s unique design adds to the challenge. It is one of the best maintained
courses on the coast and is renowned for its speedy greens and breathtaking
views. Close to Marbella buggy recommended.
2. Los Naranjos
One
of the Coast’s most attractive courses. The holes are wonderfully laid out with
the first nine roaming through the undulating terrain whilst the second nine
are set amongst the orange groves. Close to Marbella buggy optional.
3. Las Brisas
Las
Brisas Golf, given the royal status, is an absolutely excellent golf course
located in the famous Golf Valley west of Marbella at the Costa del Sol in
Spain. A multitude of provoking water hazards, raised greens and a wonderful
variety of vegetation make playing this well maintained course an absolute
delight.
4. Aloha
This
extremely popular golf course was founded in 1975 and designed by Javier Arana.
Aloha Golf is considerably undulated with lots of mature trees and diversified
vegetation. Aloha Golf is difficult both from the tee as on the greens thus
challenging but absolutely fair.
5. Dama de Noche
The
name says it all; this course is the Lady of the Night. It is floodlit and
offers 24 hour golf. The rough is very cut back and the lights high so no
shadows are cast and finding your ball is easy.
6. Guadalmina S
Guadalmina
Sur opened in 1959. This course is after Malaga Parador the Costa del Sols
oldest course. The wide fairways and raised greens stretch out towards the
beach.
7. Guadalmina N
Guadalmina
Norte opened in 1975 and is probably the easier of the two golf courses
although the fairways are more undulated and there are more water hazards and
trees in play.
8. El Paraiso
The
welldesigned course itself is, because of its wide fairways, not to difficult
to play although there is some heavy rough and plenty of water hazards, two
lakes and lots of hidden streams.
9. Atalaya Old
One
of the two eighteen hole courses on quite gentle, flat terrain. The old course
is quite forgiving and suitable for all players. Close to Marbella buggy not
needed.
10. Flamingos
A
stunning course with views across the Mediterranean Sea to Gibraltar.
11. Atalaya New
Tone
of two eighteenhole courses on quite gentle, flat terrain. The new course
enjoys a more spectacular layout than the Old and features wide fairways. Close
to Marbella buggy not needed.
12. Marbella Club
This
exclusive course, owned by the Marbella Club Hotel and the Puente Romano, is an
example of a perfectly managed course. It is a challenging test with meandering
fairways and plenty of water to negotiate. Guests in both hotels have priority
and guaranteed tee off times.
13. Los Arqueros
Every
hole here is unique with well placed hazards making the most of the undulating
terrain. The views across the Mediterranean are spectacular. Close to Marbella
buggy optional.
14. Monte Mayor
One
of the coast’s more enjoyable and challenging courses, Monte Mayor is in a
superb valley setting. Water plays an important part in many holes, fairways are
generally narrow and some holes require accurate play across ravines. Close to
Marbella buggy included.
15. La Zagaleta
Founded
in 1994 and designed by American Bradford Benz, La Zagaleta is considered the
most exclusive private golf course on the Costa del Sol. This magnificent golf
course, with its impuissant clubhouse, is settled in an area away from the busy
coast surrounded by impressive villas. Tough to get a round on.
16. Rio Real
An
enjoyable course to play, the Rio Real gets its name from the river that
dissects the course and comes into play on several holes. The fairways are
slightly forgiving and the greens are fast. Close to Marbella buggy optional.
17. Santa Clara
Opened
in 2001 Santa Clara Golf is designed accordance the latest USGA specifications
of a Parkland course. Besides the huge river, which swirls across the whole
golf course there are plenty of lakes (the small lake around the 18th green
provides a stunning setting) and spectacular elevated greens.
18. Marbella Golf and Country Club
Teeing
of on the first hole of the Marbella Golf & country club will probably be
an intimidating experience for most among us because of the steep ravines.
After a couple of holes, however, the golf course, designed by Robert Trent
Jones and opened in 1990, transforms to more reasonable standards but will
still require all your attention.
19. Greenlife
This
Greenlife Golf project offers a spectacular 9hole short par 3 golf course and
excellent practice facilities among which an electronic tilting tee system that
allows you to practice all positions you might find yourself in on the actual
course.
20. Santa Maria
A
beautiful course, but don’t let the views distract you from your shot as the
fairways demand accuracy. Close to Marbella buggy recommended.
21. Cabopino
The
spectacular Cabopino golf course is new (opened 2001) and is situated in a
wooded area and swirls towards a quite undulated area (a buggy is required and
included in the special green fee offer). More land inward it breathes a rustic
atmosphere away from traffic and tourism.
22. La Siesta
This
short 9hole par 3 golf course is designed by Enrique Canales and opened in
1990. La Siesta is located north of Calahonda at the Costa del Sol in a private
setting (visitors are always welcome). Although La Siesta is a par 3 golf
course it seems to play longer.
23. Miraflores
Elevated
in the Mijas Costa hills, this course offers tremendous views towards the sea.
Several holes offer a real test and the 3 lakes pose difficulties on a number
of holes.
24. La Cala S
One
of two sister courses, both are Costa del Sol favourites. Both test your
abilities and have some challenging blind holes. Close to Mijas buggy
recommended.
25. La Cala N
One
of two sister courses, both are Costa del Sol favourites. Both test your
abilities and have some challenging blind holes. Close to Mijas buggy
recommended.
26. Mijas Olivos
Los
Olivas requires a little more accuracy than its sister course Los Lagos in
order to find your way to the smaller greens. Close to Mijas buggy optional.
27. Mijas Lagos
Los
Lagos is long and open a more forgiving course than sister course Los Olivos.
However there is a lot of water to contend with Close to Mijas buggy
optional.
28. Torrequebrada
One
of the coast’s most popular courses, Torrequebrada is a real challenge that low
handicappers will love. Accuracy is required on narrow fairways. The shot must
be carried over ravines on several tea shots. Close to Benelamadena buggy
recommended.
29. Parador
Costa
del Sol’s oldest course, the Parador is probably unique in how it combines the
front nine which are fundamentally parkland and the back nine which are links.
An enjoyable course to walk and hosted the Spanish Masters in 1999. Close to
Malaga buggy optional.
30. Guadalhorce
The
fairways on the front 9 are tracing the contours of the undulated area while
the back 9 is sited in an area where some earth movement was necessary
resulting in a different kind of golf course with tropical vegetation raised
greens and lakes. Both the front and back nine have two shared greens.
31. Lauro Golf
A
reasonably flat, petty course with spectacular views the Malaga valley and the
Mediterranean. Close to Malaga buggy recommended.
32. Alhaurin
A
wonderful challenge for low handicappers. A hilly course with tight fairways
and superb views. Close to Mijas buggy included.
33. Estepona
A
pleasant, challenging course, Estepona is a good test with its narrow fairways
and quite long par 3s. Close to Estepona buggy recommended.
34. La Duquesa
Opened
in 1986 this golf course requires all your skills especially from the tee.
Ending up in the rough is fatal. The back nine provides some marvelous views of
the coastline of the Costa del Sol towards Marbella.
35. Sotogrande
A
relatively flat course, the Sotogrande makes good use of water, it’s an
interesting course for low handicappers. Close to Sotogrande buggy optional.
36. Alcaidesa
One
of the few true links courses in Spain, which offers wonderful views of
Gibraltar and North Africa. Close to Sotogrande buggy recommended.
37. La Candado
Still
considered a new course La Candado is good value and a good test. Close to
Sotogrande buggy optional.
38. Valderrama
One
of the bestknown courses in Europe, Valderrama is visually very attractive and
a great test. Always in superb condition, its notoriety makes it difficult to
get on to and expensive. Close to Sotogrande buggy optional.
39. San Roque
An
intriguing course set in the Andalusian hills; the San Roque consists of two
distinctly different groups of nine holes. An excellent course for high or low
handicappers. Close to Sotogrande buggy recommended.
40. Almenara
A beautiful and challenging course with plenty of water and superb scenery. Close to Sotogrande buggy recommended.
